**NEW LEAD LAWS**
The new CONSUMER PRODUCT SAFETY ACT is effective as of February, 2009. This law now requires all businesses, including small businesses
and crafters, like me, to pay for lead testing and labeling for each and every individual item that is sold. The cost of testing an individual rosary well
exceeds the cost that I am currently charging for my rosaries. Because of this, my rosaries and jewelry are no longer recommended for children under the
age of 13.
Because I am aware that lead is a concern for all people, not just for children, I have contacted the manufacturers of the wire that I use in these rosaries.
There is less than 6 parts per million of lead in the wire. These levels are well under the 1000 ppm threshold level for lead listed in the European Union
Directive 2002/95/EC (RoHS Restriction of Hazardous Substances). There is lead present in the crystals (that is what gives them their sparkle) which
does not pose a problem unless ingested. Because of this, crystals are not recommended for jewelry for children under the age of 13. Beaded jewelry is
not recommended for children because of choking hazards.
